Why am I hearing about this now?
Idaho Medicaid made some changes starting June 2025 about who pays for in-home care services. This does not stop your care, but it might mean your coverage switched to a new company.
What changed?
- Blue Cross of Idaho no longer pays for Medicaid in-home care services — their contract ended on June 2, 2025.
- People with Medicaid only moved to Traditional Medicaid (Fee-for-Service).
- People with Medicare and Medicaid (dual eligible) were asked to choose a new insurance plan, but may have been automatically switched if they didn’t respond.
Here’s what you need to know now:
Your Coverage Type | Where You Likely Are Now | What to Do |
---|---|---|
Medicaid only | You’re on Traditional Medicaid (Gainwell pays) | You don’t need to change anything |
Medicare + Medicaid (Dual Eligible) | You were switched to UnitedHealthcare IMPlus or Molina | You can still change your plan within 90 days of being switched |
Is it too late to change my plan?
- NO — you still have options.
- If you’re within 90 days of when your plan changed, you can switch to another approved plan.
- After 90 days, you can still switch during certain times of the year or for special reasons (like issues with care).
What’s happening after January 1, 2026?
If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, you’ll have two choices for full coverage starting January 2026:
- Molina Healthcare
- UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Idaho
This means more options if you didn’t like your automatic assignment.
Why didn’t I know about this before?
Not everyone got the news, and that’s okay! Some families missed the letters that were sent in March 2025.
This is your friendly heads-up so you can check your coverage and make sure it’s working for your family.
What should I do now?
- Call your home care agency, ACCESS Care at Home, and ask who is paying for your care now.
- Call Idaho Medicaid at (833) 814-8568 to check your current plan
